Dietary experiments

   Posted by: Swizec   in Uncategorized

A few months ago I’ve spoken about student food going up in price and that I will most probably stop eating student food as a result. I would even find that particular post to link if I had more time to develop this blog and included a search, but alas, no luck.

So anyhow, after the leftover student certificates held up for a month and then the exam season started when I was at home all day long and thus had the time and energy to cook real food, I have this weekend finally come to a point where it’s time to start depending upon myself for food again. However, I still don’t want to buy student certificates because I still think spending that much money on a single meal is rather excessive.

But without eating food from the fridge and without going out to eat, what other option am I left with? It just so turns out I have a bunch of protein and protein bars lying around because I usually have a protein shake after working out and used to have half a protein bar for lunch a while back until I got bored with it and was left with a bunch of unused bars.

The solution was simple, replace the one regular meal per day with a protein meal. So for some time I will now be eating one protein bar and one protein shake a day, which is supposedly somewhat unhealthy and rather unwise. I’m not sure, that’s why it’s called an experiment.

The potentially biggest problem I’m facing with this whole thing is that the previously described dietary intake plus some tea and perhaps fruit/vegetable for vitamins amounts to only about 700 calories a day, which isn’t very much far as I know (recommended is 1500 a day). And somewhat quite interestingly after being on this diet for only two days I’ve noticed that I get a lot more tired at the gym and need much larger breaks. I also seem to think a little bit slower, but that could be the side-effect of very little caffeine input today.

Hopefully this new diet of mine will make me lose some fat off my body while being enough substance to at least sustain muscle mass … and hopefully I won’t, you know, faint or anything.

Dude, go on a bacon diet, not these protein shit. You need real food. As for the cooked meals, get some soup in a bag, those should be pretty cheap. It’s done in 5 minutes, doesn’t take too much out of your precious time. This protein stuff will not end well.

And, uhm, move to Wordpress or something already.

The thing about protein stuff is that even though it’s not a lot of food you actually FEEL full. You feel like you’ve eaten a proper meal.

It’s almost like astronaut food really.

Wordpress yes … lazy, got other stuff to do.

You wanna feel full? Eat two slices of white bread and drink 2-3 glasses of water.

Geez… Eat normally. You shouldn’t spare on food. That’s the last thing you should spare on. Food is important. Period. No excuses. You wanna lose fat? Walk, run, whatever.

Now, young Jedi, stop being foolish and go get some food. Real food.

Please, listen to Robert … and consider the fact that brain needs sugary food to function. I don’t want to follow brainless zombie on twitter ;)

Every foolish experiment has consequences. Don’t mess with your health like this, you’ll regret it later, believe me. Been there, done that.

Ok, Robert is right, you should do some sport. But I don’t think you should eat very much, on our summer camp when I had to carry all the food in my backpack (on about 60km long journey). As you guessed, there wasn’t much food in it, but after 7 days of walking with little food, I’m still alive and healthy :) (Ok, my english is bad, I’m slovenian)

You don’t need to eat much – at once. You can break it up to 5-6 smaller meals and you’ll be just fine ;)

Wow, so many people concerned with my health, I’m impressed.

I should probably note that these protein stuffs I intend to eat are only 40% protein and the rest is a combination of carbs, sugar and fat and they are _meant_ to replace up to two meals a day.

However, ever since high school I haven’t been able to get used to a more than two meals a day diet *shrug*

Experiments are fun, they are even more fun when you can observe all the variables, not just what’s observable from the outside.

Oh I also intake a lot of sugar via tea, I’m told by people that the tea I drink is insanely sugary, so I probably won’t kill my brain :)
