Two days ago, in the early morning of Friday, when I awoke and wanted to begin writing for the day, for there was naught else to be done, the computer refused to boot it. It came up to the point of laoding up 3d acceleration and properly utilise the graphics card and simply froze and would not budge. After trying this a few times a decision was made that a new graphics card is in order.

A quick dash to the tech store where apparently getting a new card that works with the AGP port is a difficult task but in the end I managed to get a quite cheap Radeon x1600 that is a LOT better than my old GeForce 2 MX 400.

So I come home with a lovely looking black box and put the new card in the computer, all fine and dandy, but it still doesn't boot up properly. A kernel update is needed. After some time fiddling with getting that to work properly and support everything that's needed (I always forget a bunch of stuff) there come Xorg problems.

And it came to the point that apparently I had to rebuild the whole Xorg and at the same time migrate to the new modular version of the thing. After long hours of getting that to work well enough to be usable came the idea of having dual screen. Now sure, it works perfectly fine at first glance, but you soon notice that rebuilding the entire KDE has to be done in order for it to work properly.

Now I am 6000 words behind schedule and still waiting for things to compile and install. It is times like these that make me ponder why exactly I'm using Gentoo and not some binary driven thing like Debian or Ubuntu. Oh well, I have 9000 words to write today if I desire to catch up and it makes me want to weep like a little baby.

Danes sem se uspel vkrcati na cudovito potovanje po oddaljenih dezelah in daljnoseznih obalah morij domisljije, ampak zakaj si cel dan napisal le ubogih 300 besed, se boste vprasali. Kot je seveda standard, nadlezno pravilo nihce-ne-ve-cesa, ni bilo casa napisati vseh teh cudovitih besed. Medtem, ko sem vceraj prezdel ure in ure za racunalnikom in samo cakal, da privre kaka beseda na dan, sem danes bil odsoten in samo cakal, da bom koncno lahko spisal vse kar komaj caka da se bo izlilo in prelilo. Z besedo, neumnost.

Se nekaj malega o trebuchetu, sedaj vsebuje 1.6 kilsko proti utez in se ob vsaki uporabi skoraj podre, domet pa je tako velik, da ga na zalost v tem stanovanju ne morem testirati; zalostno, preprosto zalostno.

Today I managed to embark on a great voyage of distant lands and far reaching shores of the imaginative sea, but why have you only written only 300 words all day then, will you ask. Of course, it figures as a general rule of whatever, there was no time to actually write out all the wonderful inspiration begotten from the heights of above. Whereas yesterday I sat almost all day in front of the computer trying hard to think up words to write, today words were there, waiting, lusting to be written, but no time to actually write them out. In a word, stupidity.

Just a quick thought about the trebuchet, it now features a 1.6 kilo weight and almost falls apart each time it is used; the worst thing being that the size of my apartment doesn't permit testing of the maximum range it can achieve, sad, so sad.

No, pa smo pri prvem dnevu dnevnih blogov in le upam lahko, da z le-temi ne bo problemov, ker ponavadi ni veliko zanimivega za povedat, ampak seveda se lahko vsako stvari naredi zanimivo z dobrim pisanjem, kar pa je v bistvu celoten namen tega podviga. Kaj ne? No, slika zgoraj je povezava na skupek fotografij lego trebucheta, ki sem ga sestavil v zadnjih nekaj dneh in danes zapravil veliko casa s streljanjem.

Kot lahko vidite, ni ravno najvecji trebuchet v obstoju, vendar je vseeno kar zajeten in je gotovo najvisja lego kreacija kar sem jih kdaj ustvaril. Protiutez je trenutno napolnjena s kovanci, kar omogoca domet priblizno 5 metrov in le upam lahko, da ribiski svinec ni predrag in bo lahko nadomestil trenutno polnilo.

Vceraj sem se slucajno spotaknil ob zelo prijeten mali strip, ki ga mocno priporocam v branje. Najverjetneje bi vas zanimalo tudi tole.

Well, here's the first of the daily blog days, hopefully these will not be a problem to write, because usually there isn't much to say, but hey, things can be made more interesting, that's what nano is about anyway is it not? Well, the image above is a link to a collage with crappy photos of the lego trebuchet I built in the last few days and spent quite some time tweaking it today.

As you can see, it's not the biggest trebuchet in existence, but it is quite tall and it happens to pack a punch unseen in my room before. The counter weight is right now filled with coins but I'll probably go buy some fishing lead tomorrow and fill it with that, reckon that will give me a weight of about 2 kilo. The range right now is about 5 meters for a block of four regular 2×4 lego bricks, which appears to be the optimum amunition.

S skorajsnim koncem oktobra se nam NaNoWriMo nevzdrzno priblizuje. To bo kaoticen mesec hitrega misljenja, se hitrejsega tipkanja in neizmernih kolicin kofeina.

Cilj je, kot morda ze veste, napisati celoten roman v enem kratkem mesecu, ali pa vsaj prvih 50 tisoc besed le-tega, no, ni nujno, da ravno prvih; 50k besed v glavnem. Naloga se je lani izkazala za dosegljivo, saj sem v manj kot mesecu dosegel priblizno 55k besed. Roman ni bil potem nikoli dokoncan, se manj pa izdan. Letos bom skusal osebni cilj 90k besed doseci raje z serijo medsebojno povezanih novel, ki bodo verjetno izpadle kot nekaksna poglavja romana. Ko bo vsega konec pa bom storil se vse v svoji moci, da bi prislo do izdaje te zmesnjave besed.

Kot ste lahko opazili ze v zadnji novici, novembra ne bo novih stripov. Ce zelim spisati 3000 besed na dan je dokaj ocitno, da ne ostane ravno veliko casa se za kaj drugega. Poskusil pa bom, pisati ta blog/novice vsak dan, tako da bi se ustvaril nekaksen popis NaNoWriMo dogajanja, ne vem se zakaj bo to dobro, ampak skodovati ne more.

NaNoWriMo is fast upon us with October coming to an end. It will be a hectic month of quick thinking and even quicker typing, many a caffeine will be consumed and ideas will flourish. In a word, fun.

The goal, as you may know, is to write an entire novel, or at least 50k words of it, in a single month. The task is not easy but it proved last year to be feasible as I came out with just over 55k words. The novel wasn't finished and I never got aroudn to finishing it nor to publishing. This year I have set a personal goal of 90k words which will be achieved by writing 3000 words a day, also feasible. But rather than writing a novel I will be writing a series of intraconnected novelas, which will in the end probably come out looking like chapters of a novel. On top of that, I have firmly decided to do everything in my power to get this work of fiction published and fulfill my long term dream of being a writer, whatever that may mean.

As you have probably noticed in the last news post there will be no new comic this month, now you know why, but I promise to try my best at making this blog something daily. The idea being that of daily reports on the progress of NaNoWriMo and everything around it. Hopefully it does not turn out boring.

Skrajni čas že, da ta blog dobi en malček novejših vsebin. Je že skoraj smrdelo po plesnivem siru in trohneči barvi. Nasploh nelepo. Na žalost pa niti ni kaj veliko za povedat, ker se pač ni prav veliko zgodilo, kaj čmo.

Stran s povezavami je bila na manjši plastični operaciji, upam, da bo lahko poplačala kredit. Sedaj je na splošno boljša, je pa obljubila, da si bo pridobila še pvoezave na nekaj drugih odličnih stripov, katerih avtorji pa ne dobavljajo lastnih banerjov, tako da, ker stvar rabi malo več pozornosti, to preprosto še ni bilo postorjeno.

Cthulhu se je tudi zredil za še eno stran za Oktober, kar je še dobro, ker se je zgodilo nekako ravno na sredi meseca, kar pomeni, da je bil dogodek takorekoč ravno po načrtu. Redko a fascinantno.

Pripelje nas to torej do naslednje relativno pomembne teme. Pod novo stranjo lahko opazite, da datum naslednje rasti ni v Novembru, kot bi se pričakovalo, ampak nekako šele v Decembru. Za taka hudodelstva so seveda dobri razlogi in zaobsegajo določene dogodke, ki bodo potekali cel mesec. Seveda pa vam lahko že narava t.i cliffhangerja pove, da še ne boste zvedeli, kaj to pravzaprav je.
